Meizu launches Ice Cream Sandwich beta update for M9 and MX smartphones

MEIZU released a public beta testing version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for two of its popular smartphones – the MEIZU MX and M9. The newly released firmware is based on stock Android 4.0 — it’s not the customized version MEIZU usually ships with its products.

We haven’t been able to try out the software, but from what the Chinese company says, it will bring an “entirely new look and feel” which is kinda logical since it lacks MEIZU’s customizations.

It’s also worth adding that private beta testing preceded this public launch, hinting us some of the bugs have been fixed in the meantime. Still — since this isn’t the complete version — I assume some polishing is still needed to make things run smoothly.

Finally, I’d like to add that it’s nice to see MEIZU including support for M9, which is their last-year product. From a company that used to be known (and is still considered by many) as the best iPhone cloner, this comes as a sweet surprise (we would expect only the MX update). Way to go guys…
