iPhone Dev Team Launching iPhone 3G Unlock Software on New Year’s Eve

The sneaky/stealthy/ultra-popular iPhone Dev Team have announced that their long-awaited and highly anticipated software unlock for the iPhone 3G is coming soon… By New Year’s Eve in fact! I suspect they’re working out some minor bugs at this point, and are cranking up the buzz machine for a big launch on the last day of the year.

The Dev Team will be packaging the software in an ultra-easy format… which will make it incredibly idiot-proof and simple to use. When I think of simple to use unlocking apps I always look back to good ol ZiPhone for the 2G iPhone… Hook up your device, open the app, select your options, click the button… and GO! I’m expecting the same ease of use with this one.

The unlock will be available to all iPhone 3G’s running v2.11.07 or earlier. If you’ve already updated your iPhone to v2.2 without the help of the iPhone Dev Team PwnageTool jailbreak utility… Looks like you’ll have to wait a bit longer for an unlock. How long? Can’t tell ya that, but you can bet someone will be working on it.
