Nokia and Sony Ericsson welcomes Apple with their iPhone, scoff at competition from iphone

Instead of mocking and belittling newcomer Apple for trying to break into the ultra-competitive mobile phone game, Nokia and Sony Ericsson are apparently welcoming the green-eared manufacturer with open arms. The Apple iPhone’s release date is one of the most anticipated product launches in history. Still, Nokia and Sony Ericsson seem pretty sure of themselves and their fortified position in the industry.

Mats Lindoff, Sony Ericsson CTO, stated that the company is not worried about the iPhone because it’s Walkman handsets have a comfortable market market position – in addition to the 3G offerings so sorely lacking from Apple’s iPhone.

Rick Simonson, Nokia’s CFO, commented that the release of the iPhone will only help drive the market for high-end multimedia handsets – something Nokia excels in. Samsung also chimed in with the assertion that the iPhone is not even released and that consumer response has yet to be determined.
