Lenovo is launching the LePhone K800 in China, making it the first Intel Medfield-powered Android smartphone in the world’s most populous country. The device is pretty cool, sporting a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor under the hood (along with a 400MHz GPU), as well as a 4.5-inch IPS display, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, 1GB of RAM, HSPA+ and Wi-Fi connectivity, 16GB of built-in memory and so on. The problem, however, is that it still runs Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread rather than Ice Cream Sandwich, though we’re sure the update is in works as we speak.
Price wise, Lenovo is asking RMB 3,299 (about $524) for the unlocked, SIM-free device, and is making it available through its website and retail stores, 360Buy.com and selected Suning & GOME stores.
We did manage to briefly check out the LePhone K800 during this year’s CES and we liked what we’ve seen. Chances are many things have been changed and now the phone is working even better. Hopefully, we’ll have a review unit soon when we’ll get back to you with more information. Stay tuned…
