Apple iPhone: Anti-Theft Feature Revealed in Apple Patent

Apple patent for anti-theft system on Apple iPhone

Apple Insider has uncovered a recently published patent, filed in 2004, that outlines plans for an anti-theft feature for mobile devices. The “acceleration-based theft detection system” could, possibly, apply to the iPhone – which we all know is packed with accelerometers. Upon sensing erratic movements associated with theft (like continuous, rapid motion) the device could sound an alarm or lock itself, or both. Apparently, the system can distinguish between accidental movements and the accelerations data that would indicate someone stealing your phone. We’re not sure how accurately this system could work, but if this patent does indeed materialize in the iPhone, users may think twice before taking a jog with it in their pocket.
