Today Samsung announced its attentions to purchase UK-based CSR mobile connectivity and location technology along with the all important transfer of relevant patents. The cost of this acquisition will set the Korean-based manufacturer back $310 million, which is chump change to the maker of the Galaxy S-line. Sammy plans to use CSR’s IP related to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS technology to better leverage its Exynos AP platform.

The deal is expected to close by Q4 2012 and will function as a multi-site R&D center for connectivity and location products development.

The official release of the company’s plans are below:

This strategic partnership combines Samsung’s world-class semiconductor technology with CSR’s cutting edge wireless connectivity and location expertise. By leveraging CSR’s R&D capability, Samsung will strengthen its application processor platform and solidify its position as a leading semiconductor solutions provider. Samsung’s Exynos processor optimised with these wireless connectivity capabilities will provide our customers with an even broader mobile solution portfolio to expand their business opportunities.

Samsung is growing bigger by the day, as it tries to hunt down Apple for not only consumer mind share, but world dominance. The company’s Galaxy S III is expected to sell somewhere north of 15 million in Q3. Now those are numbers.
