Kindle Fire: Now with Ice Cream Sandwich

When the original Kindle Fire was released, it ran on an outdated version of the Android operating system. The move was expected, however, as Amazon built an extensive user interface atop the Android operating system so that the end-user would be presented with an experience that was truly Amazon’s.

Still, we like it when a tablet runs at least close to the latest version of Android, and the new fangled Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD released today will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Of course, we’d have loved to see Android 4.1 Jelly Bean included on the Fire, but that operating system wasn’t released in time for Amazon to re-build their custom UI in time for the tablet’s scheduled releases.
