UK: Social networking traffic overtakes traffic to adult sites

Apparently… in the UK last year, traffic to social networking sites was higher than it was to porn providers! That’s something I didn’t see coming (no pun intended), that’s for sure! Fascinatingly, 55% of the visitors to the SN sites are women – I wonder what the balance is for visitors to the porn sites? Well, you need at least one hand to operate the mouse when visiting an adult site – but that doesn’t disclude either sex, does it? 🙂

Now, the influence of the Mobile device can’t be left out of the equation, as it has leveraged (along with faster data access) a viable channel to access material – given a Mobile is always carried about with oneself, it’s also a lot more convenient if you happen to be needing that fix of voyeurism!

I’d predict over time that more and more access is going to be delivered via Mobile – with it’s in-built payment mechanism (premium SMS is so simple), and growing storage for video content, it surely is going to become the medium of choice…
