LG's first chips to be unveiled at CES

It was back in April 2011 when we told you that LG is working on its own ARM-based chips. The results of those plans may be unveiled at the upcoming CES in Las Vegas when we expect to see the first devices that use LG’s own chips.

From what we’ve understood, the upcoming LG H13 chip will initially find its place in TV sets with “H” standing for “Home Entertainment” and 13 for the year. The mentioned processor will be on par with Samsung’s Exynos 5250, except that it’s going to built on a 28 nanometer rather than 32 nanometer technology. However, unlike Samsung, LG won’t make its own chips and will rather outsource the production to TSMC, which is a well known manufacturer of such things with Qualcomm being their major client.

So, is chip design a “good enough” solution for LG? It works for Apple and we’re sure it will save some cash for the Korean company, as well as help it differentiate its products. We’ll let you know when we hear about the first LG chip slated for mobile devices…
