Verizon Wireless is shutting down its mobile video service, VCAST Video, on December 15th. The service was launched back in 2005, allowing folks with “multimedia devices” (not just smartphones) to enjoy watching clips while on the go. Mobile access to NFL games is not included in this shut down and it will continue to be offered through NFL Mobile for $5 per month. Moreover, the carrier will continue to support its recently launched video discovery service Viewdini.

Here’s what Verizon said at its website:

Verizon Wireless is constantly working to bring the best experiences to our customers. To better serve the demands of consumers, on December 15, 2012, Verizon Video will be Shut Down from use. This will allow us to focus on bringing you the best video experience in wireless. With more choices and even more content, we introduce VIEWDINI, a new video service for your 4G Android/Apple device. Whether you enjoy exploring the universe of video for hours or quickly find exactly what you are looking for, viewdini is FREE to download and use.

Can’t say we’re feeling sad for VCAST Video, cause we never really liked the idea of carrier picking what’s good to watch for us. What about you – will you miss Verizon’s mobile video service?
