HTC’s Windows Phone 8X is the first device running the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile platform to get an over-the-air (OTA) update. Microsoft introduced this capability in Windows Phone 8, allowing users to get the latest software without connecting their beloved smartphones to the computer (something Android has been doing for quite some time).

The main thing of this firmware update is the “always-on” Wi-Fi that fixes the most annoying issue Windows Phone 8 users had (and are still having) with their phones. The moment the screen was turned off, Wi-Fi was losing connectivity, causing service interruption in some cases.

Additionally, some of the bugs have been fixed and new features added like the ability to reject a call with SMS, ability to delete multiple text messages at one, and save texts as drafts. Yeah, we do realize these are some basic capabilities Microsoft should’ve included in the initial Windows Phone version, but alas… better late than never.

As I’m writing this, the update is only available for international HTC 8X devices with users in North America most likely to get it in the coming days.
