Asus has sold almost 1 million Padfone 2 units

Asus’ Padfone 2 isn’t selling like hot cupcakes, despite being a pretty cool device. The problem is in distribution as the device isn’t as widely available as it should be (to reach some significant sales figures).

According to DigiTimes, which cites Taiwan-based supply chain makers, Asus has sold “nearly one million units” globally, with shipments continuing. The Padfone 2 was launched last year and at one point it was the darling of the Internet. Today, however, we have a completely different market in which high-end users (read: gadget freaks like me) demand full HD screens. That said, we’ve no doubt Asus will be able to move more Padfone 2 units this year, though it should try hard to reach more users (and more markets). I’ve no doubts that carriers dislike the concept of a combo device as they would prefer to sell us a smartphone and tablet separately, but then again – there are always smaller players which could use a device like Padfone 2 to differentiate their offering from the rest of the pack.
