Juniper ResearchAccording to a new report from Juniper Research, mobile games revenues reached $5.4 billion in 2008. Not surprisingly, markets that led this growth include India, Africa & Middle East, as well as developing nations across the Asia Pacific region.

In the report titled “Mobile Games: Subscription & Download (5th edition),” Juniper awarded two companies with its Future Mobile Awards for their achievements in the mobile gaming space. Apple took the Gold Award with its AppStore, while the silver medal went to Fishlabs for their work in development of premium 3D titles and their mobile gaming community – myFISHLABS.

Other findings from the Juniper report include:

  • The Far East & China is the largest regional market in terms of games downloads.
  • The Indian Sub Continent will overhaul Western Europe to become the second-largest such market by 2010.
  • More than 50% of games downloaded by 2012 will be funded by advertising.
  • Operators in Europe and the US need to reduce their demands on game revenue share to encourage developers.
