RIM Co-CEO Talks App World, Touchscreens

During a recent interview, RIM’s co-CEO Mike Lazaridis is the first to admit the bumpy road the BlackBerry Storm took following launch, but is adamant that the future of their touchscreen lineup remains bright with the help of continual improvements. In terms of more recent news, Lazaridis addressed the App World as a glowing success, and gives the nod to future possibility of payment methods through carriers rather than PayPal. In classic RIM style, he brushes off the competition, implying Apple’s lack of multitasking and true push support to be eternal thorns in their side, and that new players, like Dell, are in for a wild ride if they’re honestly thinking about entering the smartphone game. Lazaridis is confident as ever about RIM’s position these days, but let’s face it, it’s pretty much his job to put on that front. We’ll have to see what Research in Motion brings to the Wireless Enterprise Symposium in a few short weeks to see if they’ve got anything to really wow us with. The BlackBerry 9630 “Niagara” would be nice, but it’ll be a shrugworthy show if that’s all they’ve got.
