So at the Gadget Show Live 2009 today, I visited the Skullcandy stand – and was given some “Full Metal Jacket” headphones, that work specifically with the iPhone. They have quite a distinctive design, as you can see from the pic above.

They have some impressive specs also:

Think FMJ audio superiority with a new tightly-wrapped, coiled metal cable, plus the addition of a sleek in-line mic. That’s right, Skullcandy’s iPhone FMJ lets you and your iPhone rock together AND talk together. We don’t care who you walk with. Also works with Blackberry Curve.

  • 11mm speaker
  • Frequency range: 16 Hz – 20K Hz
  • Impedance: 16 ohms
  • Max input power: 500mW
  • Cable type: Aluminum foil
  • Cable length: 1.1 M
  • Plug type: 3.5mm gold plated

Accessories: EVA carrying case, COMPLY™ foam tips

Personally I like the fact that they are all-aluminium – and so immediately feel good quality. But how do they sound?

Well – pretty darn good! Part of the idea here is that they are noise-isolating, and like all in-ear canal headphones, they do a great job. So no external noise, and the internal noise (i.e your music) sounds well balanced and clear. The other big issue with headphones sometimes, one of comfort for extended periods, is no problem here at all – they feel good in the ear.

You can find out more about the FMJ iPhone headphones here.

Overall rating: Excelle-ment!

Grade: A(+) (recommended)
