More Palm Pre details emerge

pre-46Before you go putting all your faith into this here rumor-basket, just know that this alleged Sprint documentation isn’t in any way confirmed or acknowledged by Sprint. But, at face value, this latest Palm Pre leak does sound plausible.

According to a supposed Sprint “insider,” the Palm Pre will support remote data wiping – a useful feature in case your data-filled Palm Pre gets lost or stolen. The remote data wipe feature is apparently initialized upon registering a “Palm Profile” for the Palm Pre. The “Palm Profile” allows the Pre to update device software, download updates to the App Catalog, restore contacts, restore data, restore applications, and makes it possible to remotely wipe the Pre.

We’re also hearing that the Palm Pre won’t support tethering (phone as modem) plans, but will require a Sprint Everything. The Pre will apparently handle up to eight email accounts, and will be launched with a “Data Transfer Assistant” that will export all data from the “Palm Desktop” to the Palm Pre in one felled swoop.

Unfortunately, the Palm Pre is said to have passed up features like Sprint Music, Sprint PictureMail, and Sprint Digital Lounge. No biggie for most, but we’d imagine there are a select few that might take issue with not having PictureMail on deck.

The rest of the newly leaked Pre info is rather dry, or has already been leaked/confirmed, but feel free to head on over to InsideSprintNow for the full rundown.
