TAIPEI (MarketWatch) — Taiwan Mobile Co. said Wednesday it plans to buy NT$4.8 billion worth of third-generation mobile phone infrastructure equipment from Nokia Corp.

The purchases, which will include 3G base stations and switches, are part of Taiwan Mobile’s plan to expand its 3G services for the 2007-2009 period, it said in a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Taiwan Mobile, the island’s third-largest mobile-phone service provider by revenue aims to improve 3G signals and coverage through the purchases.
Taiwan Mobile said the payment will be made over a three-year period.

Left and right I’m hearing about all these countries getting 3G, and all I have to say is what about the USA? Yes Verizon and Sprint have EVDO, but it’s $60 a month! Cingular has EDGE, which is slow, and T-Mobile … well we know they said they’ll be implementing WCDMA equipment from Nokia sometime in the next 2 years. I’m impatient, then again I think the entire male species is.
