huawei-logoHuawei has conducted a live demonstration of the world’s first handoff tests between TD-LTE base stations with a 100-percent success rate. These field tests demonstrated the ability of Huawei’s network to successfully deliver the handoff or handover technology that facilitates phone calls between different technologies. The completion of the test marks a major forward step in the evolution of TD-LTE technology.

Huawei also showcased the world’s first multi-user access and multi-cell handoff tests based on a TD-LTE network at the event. Different terminals were used to simultaneously demonstrate the services based on TD-LTE, such as VOD, video phone and VOIP.

Huawei has been researching LTE technology since 2004 and, in December 2008, was awarded with the world’s first LTE commercial contract, with Teliasonera. By the end of March 2009, Huawei had submitted more than 2,500 LTE/SAE applications and has contributed 20 percent of all the patents in LTE field.

LTE, as we know, is probably going to be a winning 4G technology in the next few years – and by winning deals, filing patents, and doing world firsts, is positioning itself to be right at the top of the pile of infrastructure vendors. One to watch.
