For those of you not in the know, Nokia set up something called the blogger relations program. What they’re basically doing is giving people who are respected amongst their peers in the blogosphere a chance to play with the latest and greatest devices that Finland’s finest produces. I track quite a few of these people in this elusive club (where’s my invite!), Ken being one of the more vocal with in the bunch.
Today he speaks about his new toy, the Nokia N80 Internet Edition, mainly how it compares to other phones he has been trying from Nokia, and this is the conclusion he reaches:
In the long run, I expect I’ll still need to carry multiple devices often. The Treo fills a need that none of the Nokia N-series can address – a QWERTY keyboard and full editing of Office documents. What I’m quickly finding is that I prefer the Nokias for phone, text/SMS, casual email reading only, and many other things. And I’m finding the native ability to handle RSS feeds an extremely useful tool.
I’ll keep reporting as I keep adjusting. I’ll be doing some photographic comparisons across the N-series. I’ll also do some video comparisons. And I want to compare primary and secondary cameras on all three. Yes, they each have a front and back camera. And dammit I want a UMTS network that supports video calling too!
My initial inclination, and this is just after a few days, is that if I had to choose one single device, I’d be torn between the N93 and N80i. But either would edge the Treo out by a bit even thought that QWERTY & Office capability is vital to me.

So now that the baton has been passed, the conversation should open up. What do Treo’s do that N-series (more like anything running S60) can’t do? Yes you said in the end you would choose to give up the Treo, but something tells me you would go crawling back to it after a lapse of a week or two. I say this from the heart, if the Nokia E61 didn’t have wifi and a larger keyboard I’d have a Treo 680 right now. Lack of a radio and a change in form factor are two things Palm can fix relatively quickly.
