orangemusicOver 700,000 of Orange’s 2 million tracks had their DRM turned off recently, with the rest of the tracks in Orange’s music store soon to follow says mocoNews. This is a welcome change for people who hate DRM, and for consumers who will now be able to freely move their music between whatever devices they own that happen to play MP3 files. “Our intention definitely in 2008 is to drop DRM, so we can have a truly interoperable service linked with network access” said Orange’s Music Product Development Director Brenda O’Connell in an interview with mocoNews in January 2008. They’re about 18 months late, but hey, at least it finally happened!

Note: Nokai’s Comes with Music still has DRM

Update: Orange just published their press release detailing the announcement.
