MIPS Technologies on its way to bring Android beyond mobiles

MIPS on Android

We’ve already talked about MIPS plans to “go Android.” Well, just recently the company announced that it has met a key milestone in driving the Android platform beyond mobile handsets by making the source code publicly available.

At the same time, MIPS also initiated the so called Early Access Program for a small group of key customers who will have access to specific hardware and code optimizations before they are publicly available…

For the record — and for those who missed the previous article — MIPS Technologies is working to define standardized Android-based platforms for consumer devices such as set-top boxes, digital TVs, mobile internet devices (MIDs), home media players and VoIP systems.
