
Art auctioneer Saffronart is to deploy a new mobile offering that will allow users in India to bid for art and fine jewelry through a text message. The company is hoping to bring in new enthusiasts with the help of technology, which could come very handy in the time of global recession.
But it’s not just the SMS service Saffronart will offer. A dedicated mobile application is also there, allowing collectors to preview sales, make bids and view auction results.
The mobile app is released just in time for Saffronart’s autumn auction of 95 works by modern and contemporary Indian artists including Akbar Padamsee, Subodh Gupta, Surendran Nair, S.H. Raza and Manjit Bawa — estimated at bringing in about $4.5 million…
