Ondeego’s AppCentral is a mobile app store for the enterprise

Ondeego AppCentral

Motorola’s Android offering certainly stole this year’s Mobilize, but there were other interesting announcements being made at the event, as well. On that note, we bring you the story of Ondeego, which used Mobilize’09 to launch AppCentral, the enterprise-focused mobile app store.

The main idea behind AppCentral is to “address the unique needs of enterprise workers and their IT departments while creating an ecosystem of enterprise-focused mobile developers.” Ondeego says there are quite a few benefits for having this kind of solution, for instance:

  • Employees can select mobile apps they need to do their job without long purchasing and procurement cycles;
  • IT departments can manage application deployments across multiple mobile platforms;
  • Third-party developers can sell their productivity and enterprise applications, gaining distribution to an incredibly lucrative but difficult to access market.

See where this is going? It’s designed to help big companies make their workers more productive, keeping all entertainment content out of the app store. And while I’m against those kind of policies, I can clearly see this flying for the targeted market…
