The Apple Forums are abuzz with complaints from iPhone users who have attempted to update to the recent 3.1 patch, only to find their phone shortly became unresponsive, and required a hard reboot. The phenomenon has been appropriately dubbed “Coma mode”, and though it doesn’t affect everybody who has updated, and there are directions available for downgrading to 3.0, this is a rough patch for iPhone owners who want to give the latest and greatest a shot. If Coma mode wasn’t enough, battery life, tethering, Wi-Fi and call stability have also suffered at the hands of 3.1. If you haven’t updated yet, it’s probably worth saving yourself the headache and holding off until the bugs get sufficiently squashed. For those of you that have already had a go, are you experiencing problems?
