Palm Pre gets homebrew video recording

The list of things the Palm Pre is good at doing is considerable. The Pre’s webOS can multi-task like it’s nobody’s business, it’s great at aggregating your social network contacts and it’ll even allow you to pinch and zoom your way through web-pages. Video recording isn’t officially on that list. Unofficially, however, the Palm Pre has just been given video recording support through a homebrew (read: unsupported) third-party webOS app! The video recording app is available here, if you want to give it a shot.

Being an unofficial webOS app, the video recording app does have its downsides – the videos are almost unplayable by many video players and are limited to just 320×480 resolution at 30fps. That sure beats the crap out of the 1fps video recording “hack” we saw a few months back. Still, the video recording app isn’t anywhere near production quality. The Palm Pre can reportedly handle video recordings at 720×480 and 30fps, but it’s going to take some official work on Palm’s part to get that feature officially added to the Palm Pre’s spec-sheet. This app gives us hope that Palm is cooking up their own video recording software and will bake it into the next webOS update.

On that note, have you gotten your webOS 1.2 update downloaded and installed yet?
