Nokia’s Indian giving: Everyone at the Maemo Summit gets a Nokia N900, has to return it in 6 months

The Maemo Summit is currently taking place in Amsterdam right now and I’m watch the live coverage pouring out of the recently launched All About Maemo website. One thing that strikes me as odd is that Nokia is giving everyone at the show a pre production Nokia N900, but then they’re expected to return it after 6 months. Besides being a logistical nightmare, why is this being done? Does Nokia not have enough money? We’ll find out how Nokia’s doing financially on the 15th of October when they release their Q3 results. How do you think Google Android developers would have felt if they all left the Google I/O conference knowing they only had a limited time to play with their free devices? Talk about Indian giving.
