It finally happened. After months of speculation, a new name, and a very big leak, Motorola has officially announced the world’s first Google Android 2.0 (Éclair) device: Droid. This monster will be available on Verizon Wireless starting November 6th for $200 (after $100 mail in rebate) on a 2 year contract. You’ll have to sign up for a nationwide voice plan, which starts at $40/month, and an “Email and Web for Smartphone” plan which is another $30/month, so you’re looking at a minimum of $70/month to own this sucker.
What does the Droid come with?
- 3.7 inch capacitive touch screen with a whopping 854 x 480 pixel resolution
- Full HTML5 browser that supports Flash and will be upgradeable to Flash 10 once it becomes available
- 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash; video capture at 720 x 480 resultion, 24 frames per second
- 16 GB of internal storage, upgradeable via microSD
- 3.5 mm headphone jack
- WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS
- 1400 mAh battery
- A beta of Google’s new Navigation application (more on that here)
- And finally the dimensions: 60 mm x 115.8 mm x 13.7 mm; 169 grams
