There are no doubts in my mind the xpPhone is an interesting device. I always thought of it as an OQO-like device with wireless connectivity packed into a bit uglier box.
Now I got an email from the company behind the product informing me about new customization options. Here are all the options:
- Operating system – Windows XP or Windows 7 seem like reasonable options, though they also mention MS DOS, and XP Embedded?
- 3G flavor – HSPA, EV-DO or TD-SCDMA (China Mobile’s standard)
- Dual/tri-mode option – so you always have a network to connect to
- WiMAX as an option
- Screen size – 4.3″, 4.8″ and 7″ – this is weird, with 7″ screen, it’s not a phone any more. Heck that’s the case with the 4.8″ option, as well.
- Storage – HDD 30/60/80/120 GB or SSD 8/16/32/64 GB
- Camera – 0.3 (VGA)/1.3/3/5 megapixels
As you can see, you can customize pretty much everything, making us think is this the future (white box smartphones) or a step backward. You be the judge…
