Scotiabank Announces Mobile Support for 2010, BlackBerry and iPhone Apps in Tow

Sometime in the spring of 2010, Canada’s Scotiabank will be offering “secure access to their bank accounts – anywhere, any time”. Besides checking your balance, this project will also allow customers to pay bills and make transfers. Scotiabank’s partner in this project, M-Com, looks like they mainly deal with secure WAP sites and SMS; M-Com also does apps, and Scotiabank senior VP Mike Henry has confirmed that there will be custom BlackBerry and iPhone apps available in addition to the website. Considering the mobile web offering, the Bank of Montreal’s latest advances into mobile with contactless PayPass Tags for BlackBerry target a much smaller and specific segment of cell phone users, though the service is infinitely snazzier. We’ll keep an eye out for specific functions once Scotiabank’s service launches next year, but you can check out M-Com in the meantime to get a feel for what might be coming.
