Apple using RSS to keep iPhone developers up to date on review process

While Apple’s AppStore might be brimming with all kinds of iPhone apps, the iPhone maker itself is struggling to keep up with the flood of new iPhone apps being submitted to the AppStore. Developers are hitting the internet en masse, complaining of rejected apps and apps that are taking longer than the standard two-week review period to hit the AppStore. It’s clear that Apple has a communication problem. So, to help open the lines of communication between themselves and devs, Apple has announced that they will be publishing an iPhone Developer News and Announcements RSS feed.

The feed is aimed at keeping devs in the loop on matters like:

  • Tips for submitting apps to the App Store
  • Current turnaround time for app reviews
  • Program updates
  • Development and testing techniques

iPhone devs, take note. Apple will now update you on their latest estimates of app review turnaround times. That’s a fairly huge deal for Apple and their opaque AppStore review process. Hopefully this is just the first step in Apple’s march towards a more open AppStore.
