GM’s Chevrolet is teaming up with OnStar to release a mobile application that allows future Volt owners to control some of the vehicle functions remotely. Although the Volt is entering production later this year, the OnStar Mobile Application is already available and it’s compatible with the iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry devices.
Among the features included, we highlight:
- Display charge status – plugged in or not, and voltage (120V or 240V), and battery status
- Scheduled charging – i.e. when electricity rates are lowest
- Displays percentage of battery charge level, electric and total ranges
- Send text or email notifications for charge reminders, interruptions and full charge
- Displays miles per gallon, electric only miles, and odometer readings
- Remotely start the vehicle to pre-condition the interior temperature
- Remote locking, unlocking, horn and lights
Finally, it’s worth adding that other non-smart phone owners could also use some of the features included in the OnStar Mobile Application by accessing a special optimized-for-mobile website. That’s of course as soon as they buy the Volt. 😉
