Sonim has launched its first 3G phone in Barcelona – XP2 Spirit. The new device keeps the legendary toughness and ruggedness while also boasting a fresh new look.

When it comes to Sonim devices there are features and… features. First the tech part:

  • 3-megapixel camera with LED flash
  • 2-inch screen, which is protected by 1.5mm of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass
  • Media player, email client and some other Java apps
  • FM radio
  • microSD memory card slot (up to 8GB)

As for the “other part” of features, here’s just how tough the Sonim XP2 Spirit is:

  • Submersible to 1 metre for 30 minutes in water
  • Non porous casing which blocks entry of micro-particles
  • Octagonal-shaped shell withstands 2m drops onto concrete
  • Built to withstand random vibrations up to 4G
  • Works in environments with temperature ranging from -20C to +55C
  • Dual injected shell (hardened rubber, fiberglass & nylon) and magnesium core
  • Keypad buttons tested to 850,000 pushes
  • Speakers protected by a GORE-TEX cover
  • 3-year unconditional guarantee

Availability wise, the Spirit will be in retail stores across Europe next month…
