Samsung is definitely a not best example on how to keep your customers happy by releasing up-to-date firmware for devices it sells. The case of the I7500 Galaxy, which is still stuck with Android 1.5 and may only get to 1.6, proves the claim. However, they are/seem to work on the Android 2.1 update for the I5700 Spica aka Galaxy Lite, and Moment (as reported earlier).
Thanks to Mad Ramblings we know how to flash the new firmware on Spica (though unfortunately none of us have one) and we also know how the device looks upon update is completed (screenshots below). Included in the update is support for multiple accounts, exchange support (no Calendar support), improved camera app (scene mode, white balance and color effects), device-wide search including SMS/MMS, HTML5 in the browser, live wall papers and obviously – a refreshed UI.
Please note that this isn’t the official way to update your firmware. If you’re going to do this, you must be aware that something could go wrong. Don’t blame us we haven’t told you – you know what I’m sayin’? 😉
