Nuance is teaming up with ZTE in a deal that would see the Chinese company shipping handsets with Nuance VSuite and Nuance Vocalizer, enabling “robust speech capabilities” as a result. The mentioned technologies can be used for both command and control, and text-to-speech; and ZTE plans to integrate them across markets and platforms, including Android and Windows Mobile.

Nuance VSuite enables mobile consumers to speak a variety of commands such as dialing, and/or launching games and other applications. On the other hand, Nuance Vocalizer provides text-to-speech functionality for text message readout and command confirmation.

Both Nuance’s solutions support more than 40 languages worldwide — including U.S. English, Simplified Mandarin Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese — giving ZTE a chance to bring these capabilities to more phones in more markets around the world.

And if you wonder when the first ZTE phone with Nuance’s voice technology will be announced, the answer is – we’ve no idea. We’ve no doubts, however, ZTE will emphasize such capability in its press release when such a device is launched.
