OMTP logoThe Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP), a forum funded by companies from across the mobile phone value chain, re-enforces its position as a central player in the drive towards improved device usability and wider data service adoption, with the launch of its conformance process (OMTP Product Profile). The OMTP Product Profile process enables statements of conformance to be made against approved OMTP recommendations. OMTP welcomes the first statements made using the first implementation of the Product Profile process.

An OMTP Product Profile statement enables OMTP members and participants to state conformance at product and component levels using a simple and intuitive portal. The information is made publicly available via the same portal enabling network operators, device manufacturers and platform and technology providers to quickly compare and contrast technology offerings.

Four OMTP participants have already made statements; these are Discretix, VirtualLogix, Spansion and Symbian. These statements are made against two of OMTP’s 12 approved recommendations, Trusted Environment TR0 (Discretix, VirtualLogix and Spansion) and Signing Scheme Requirements (Symbian).

OMTP commissioned Geoff Preston Associates Ltd to help them define and implement the conformance process. The aim of the process is to deliver base functionality in support of early statements of conformance prior to the full launch which will include enhanced portal functionality and an extended feature set. The full launch is scheduled for Q1 2007.
