Starhub Singapore launches HSPA network with HSDPA and HSUPAWe’re sure we don’t get many readers from Singapore, but we thought it might be a bit of a reality check to the Yankees out there to know that Singapore’s Starhub is launching their full-fledged 3.5G HSPA network. That’s high-speed packet access on both the downlink (HSDPA) and uplink (HSUPA) streams! They get to play with their fancy 7.2Mbps downlink speeds (with 1.9Mbps on the uplink) while us Americans are hoping for some decent 3G HSDPA coverage.

Says Mr. Anil Nihalani, Vice President of StarHub’s Mobile Services, “We have architected our 3.5G network to be capable of the full HSDPA specification of 14.4Mbps downlink. While actual performance on the HSPA network will depend on many factors, including terminal capability and the applications used, the higher capability of our network provides us greater capacity, so more users can be supported at higher speeds compared to other offerings in Singapore. When it comes to broadband, StarHub believes that the right product for the home is MaxOnline, while the 3.5G network is better suited for out-of-home use.”

Well, kudos to you, English-reading Singaporeans! Have fun with your 3.5G while we’re getting WiMAX ready for the 4G jump. Wait, did that sound bitter?
