Ultrabrief: Amazon announced that Kindle for Android coming “this summer”

Amazon has just announced that they’re going to launch a Kindle application for Google’s Android operating system this summer. You’re going to need a device running Android 1.6 or higher, and an SD card inside your device. Like the Kindle application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, you’ll have access to Amazon’s library of more than half a million books, the ability to switch between 5 font sizes, switch between portrait and landscape mode, and … well hey, that’s all you can really do with an eBook application.

To be immediately notified when it comes out, keep on reading IntoMobile, or give Amazon your email address and they’ll notify you.

With Apple launching iPhone OS 4.0 this summer, that includes support for iBookstore, the eBook space is becoming highly competitive. I’d take Amazon’s vast library any day over Apple’s pretty page animations.
