PocketCM Keyboard brings iPhone-like virtual keyboard to Windows Mobile

PocketCM KeyboardSince Apple announced the iPhone, using a touchscreen equipped phone without a stylus looks more appealing than ever. Primarily, it’s more practical. However, the problem with most touchscreen-based devices is that they not only come with a stylus, but with a virtual keyboard optimized for using it.

Thanks to the application called PocketCM Keyboard, Windows Mobile-based device owners can now add the iPhone-like virtual keyboard to their touchscreen enabled handsets and actually type sans stylus. Unlike the traditional Windows Mobile virtual keyboard, this one — and the one on the iPhone — doesn’t reacts when you press the letter on the screen. Rather, the key is triggered when your remove your finger from the screen, hence you can “preview” the letter you’re about to enter. In addition, the PocketCM Keyboard is a standard Windows Mobile Soft Input Touch (SIP) app, meaning you will be able to use it in (almost) any application.

I’m not sure whether this kind of software infringes some of the Apple’s patents, but I find it looking quite cool and above all useful. In fact, this kind of virtual keyboard should come pre-installed with HTC Touch and other all-touchscreen Windows Mobile devices.
