Building upon the successes of the iPhone app and version 1.0 of their iPad app, Newsy has announced version 2.0 for iPad. If you’ve never heard of it before, Newsy is a ‘multisource video news service’… The short of it? They deliver timely news videos to you on current and breaking news all around the world. The videos are short (2 to 3 minutes each), allowing you to take-in the latest news with speedy convenience.
This update has taken many suggestions from regular users into consideration. New features include:
- download videos for play offline in standard and high quality
- playlists save automatically
- last 20 stories are available for easy scrolling in both landscape and portrait mode
Newsy tells us that their goal is to ‘become the go-to brand for mobile video news’. Me thinks with apps like this hitting prime time, they’re well on their way. Hit the jump for the official press release.

Newsy Releases New Version of Its Highly Ranked App for the Apple iPad
Version 2.0 enhances mobile video news experience with new features recommended by users
Columbia, MO – June 6, 2010 – Newsy, a multisource video news service producing daily videos for mobile devices and the web, today debuted an advanced new version of its free iPad app. The iPad app is ranked #10 for top free news apps and ranked #3 for top free news apps for the iPad in the iTunes App Store.
The new version of the app, based on suggestions from users, is built specifically to maximize the features of the Apple iPad. Users can now download videos and play offline in both standard and high quality as well as scroll past 20 stories in landscape mode and portrait mode. In addition, playlists now automatically save and seamlessly play through from video to video.
“Our first iPad app rocketed up the rankings because we designed it specifically for the iPad,” explains Newsy President Jim Spencer. “Our goal is for Newsy to become synonymous with the words ‘mobile video news.’ Apple’s iPad is a fast-growing platform that allows us to innovate quickly to win customers looking for an exceptional on-the-go news experience.”
A news analyzer, not an aggregator, Newsy offers context with convenience for on the go news users. In 2- to 3-minutes videos, users understand the differences in coverage from media outlets from around the world as well as discover new sources they would not have found on their own.
