Plantronics announced today, during CTIA pre-show activities, that they will debut their new Pulsar 260 bluetooth headset at their CTIA booth (Plantronics booth #1013). The new bluetooth headset will offer both bluetooth headset and bluetooth headphone connectivity through A2DP technology, allowing for both high quality voice calls and music listening in the same pair of pendant style ear-buds. Mapquest is making it easier to use their mapping service on your mobile device. With the “Send to Cell” option on Mapquest’s website, users can send directions and maps to any browser-enabled mobile phone. So just what are they doing that’s so new? Well, until now, Mapquest’s mobile offerings were pay services – like Mapquest Navigator. But, with today’s announcement, most phones (to the tune of roughly 179 million phones) with mobile browsers will be able to access maps and directions for free!

Have you ever lost your mobile phone or PDA? Do you dread the day that this happens to you? Well, worry no more! YouGetItBack announces their new e-tag system to electronically keep tabs on your mobile device. Upon having your mobile device getting lost or stolen, a quick trip to YouGetItBack’s website will render the phone unusable (except to make calls to YouGetItBack’s call center) and display a homescreen wallpaper plastered with the sign “YouGetItBack.com.” The mobile device-based software “also provides a denial of service, remote delete, data backup and recovery, and guaranteed replacement functions.” The finder of the phone will even get a small reward for returning the phone – a nice little way to motivate a speedy return.

Sierra Wireless, not wanting to waste the CTIA pre-show buzz by sitting on their bums, announced today that their long-awaited EVDO Rev. A USB modem will be shipping this April. Now that’s an announcement that’s been a long time in the making, we were expecting this little USB modem last year!. Better late than never, as they say. The AirCard 595U is expected to be sold from Sprint (NYSE: S) for “as low as $49.99.” Which means that price you actually pay will depend on the length of contract and number of mail-in rebates (we all love those) that you are willing to deal with.

HTC has seen prominent and growing success in the smartphone market in recent years, and now they apparently want to jump on the UMPC bandwagon. Using their expertise in mobile computing, it would seem that the UMPC is the logical next step for this Taiwanese smartphone company. And with a healthly dose of Windows Vista (in Business Edition guise) and 3G connectivity, the Shift UMPC offers full Windows productivity as well as mobile phone functionality. LG debutes two new clamshells today, in a pre-CTIA announcement from Orlando, Florida. The LG VX8700 (pictured at left) and LG 570 were unveiled alongside a new Bluetooth Stereo Speaker system, dubbed the LG MSB-100. The LG VX8700’s thin, RAZR-like proportions indicate fashion phone aspirations, while the LG570’s music playback concentration lends to its role as a music phone. Read the full article »
