Along with the upcoming release of BlackBerry’s new Q10 handset is a revamped BlackBerry 10 OS that will make its way to the recently released Z10 as well. Even though the update will be available for both of BlackBerry’s new devices, it will be touting optimization for the QWERTY keyboard sporting Q10 handset. The Q10 is rumored to be released in Canada later this month. The update is slated to bring camera updates, such as HDR picture mode which will help users take quality low-light pictures. If you’re interested in the new BlackBerry Q10 smartphone, now is a good time to pre-order one. Phones4U is offering a free BlackBerry Playbook with the first 300 Q10 pre-orders, which is quite a deal. Phones4U is offering the 64GB version of the Playbook, which unfortunately does not run on the new BlackBerry 10 operating system. Phones4U claims that an upgrade for the Playbook is on the way, but whether or not the update brings BlackBerry 10 to the device has yet to be determined. Export Development Canada helps BlackBerry sell its phones to Telefónica

Export Development Canada (EDC) is providing 200 million EUR in working capital facility to Telefónica to facilitate the procurement of BlackBerry smartphones, services and solutions across its worldwide operations. Telefónica is one of the largest mobile operator groups, with operations in 24 countries and some 315.7 million subscribers. EDC hopes that this money will help BlackBerry grow its market share across Telefónica’s markets. This isn’t the first time EDC is assisting Telefónica though – it has been doing this since 2006, supporting various Canadian procurement needs along the way. However, Read more

BlackBerry 10 Jam kicks off in Belgrade, Serbia

Today I’m attending BlackBerry’s developer event in Belgrade, Serbia, which is organized by the company’s Balkan developer network. Even though the Canadian company was losing market share in the last few years, they’re eager to tell everyone they’re a different company now, one that has a brand new platform to compete in today’s market. We had a chance to watch the live demo of select BlackBerry 10 features, including the sexy-new UI called Flow with the “Peak” preview capability, TimeShift camera mode (licensed from Scalado, as far as I’ve understood) Read more

BlackBerry 10 “R-Series” QWERTY phone leaks; Looks like a Curve successor

We’ve already told you about BlackBerry’s plans to launch a total of 6 devices this year, one of them being the R10. Well, that device — or at least some phone from the “R-Series” — has been caught in the wild as you can attest from the image above. We don’t have all the details yet, but we’re likely talking about a lower-end model that will pack 8GB of internal storage, less RAM (1GB?) and the full QWERTY keyboard below the screen. In addition, it is said that the device Read more

BlackBerry 10 tells your BBM buddies when you’re watching porn

Your brand new BlackBerry Z10 is by default telling your BBM contacts what you’re listening and watching. While that can be cool, it can also be dangerous as you may not want to tell everyone when you’re watching some NSFW material. Everything’s cool as long as you’re visiting YouTube, but once “Tube” is turned into “Porn” (or you visit some other website with such material), your life could potentially change in a dramatic way. Worry not my friend, there’s an easy way to turn off this nasty feature and keep Read more

BlackBerry to discontinue BBM Music on June 2, 2013

BlackBerry is shutting down its BBM Music service as of June 2, 2013. The company issued the following announcement to existing users: BBM Music service will be discontinued as of June 2, 2013. For paying customers, April is the last month that you will be billed. In May, as your BBM contacts stop using the service, songs in your playlists will begin to turn grey and will no longer be available. If you need to remove the app, simply highlight its icon, press the menu key and select the delete Read more

Android And iPhone Owners Can Experience BlackBerry 10 With Live Demo

If you’re an Android or iPhone user who is interested in checking out BlackBerry’s new BlackBerry 10 OS, a new live web demo is now available that turns your smartphone into a temporary BB10 device. By pointing your mobile browser to BlackBerry.com/glimpse, users can take a tour of the new OS, checking out the BlackBerry Hub, the BlackBerry Keyboard, BBM with Screen Share, and Time Shift Mode. The demo is nothing that intensive, but does give users a feel of what living with the BlackBerry 10 OS is like. The Read more

BlackBerry to launch a total of 6 devices this year

The newly launched BlackBerry Z10 and Q10, which will be available soon, won’t be the only devices running BlackBerry 10 for long. According to a leaked roadmap, the Canadian company is preparing to launch a total of 6 devices this year. So in addition to the two announced phones, we should see 4 additional models. One of them will be a tablet, though we’re not sure whether this will be the rumored 10-inch BlackBerry PlayBook or just an update to the existing PlayBook. The roadmap suggests such a device will Read more

BlackBerry Q10 coming to O2 UK

We’ve already heard that BlackBerry Q10 is coming to the UK and now we have the first carrier announcing plans to sell it. It’s O2, which wowed to start offering the QWERTY keyboard-equipped smartphone at some point in May. Price was not unveiled but knowing that the unlocked unit will (at least initially) go for 530 GBP, we tend to believe O2 will give away the Q10 to anyone willing to sign-up for a two-year contract with around 30 GBP/month tariff. The BlackBerry Q10 sports a 3.1-inch 720×720 pixels touchscreen, Read more
