Is this LG Prada II?

Posted by Dusan on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at 1:27 pm under Rumors, LG, Devices

LG PRADA II

We’re not sure whether we should believe the image above or not, but it certainly looks appealing — at least where I stand. The apparent successor of the LG Prada phone may come with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. That would certainly be a good addition, as I’ve never liked typing on the original device. The full keyboard makes the device look more like the HTC Touch Pro, although I doubt it will be as powerful as HTC’s smartphone.

Don’t get me wrong - I don’t want to put LG’s plans down. As a matter of fact I can’t wait to give the LG Prada 2 a try. Hopefully, it will come with a 3G radio and a WiFi on board. And yes, I would love to see it run some smartphone OS, even though I doubt that will happen. Stay tuned…

Nike+ iPhone application screenshots fake?

Posted by Will on Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 at 5:27 pm under Rumors, Into iPhone, Mac OS, iPhone, Apple, Applications

iPhone Nike+ runThat’s what AppleInsider’s sources are saying. Apparently, those leaked screenshots of a Nike+ iPhone application that we showed you were not crafted by Apple or Nike. In fact, the Nike+ iPhone application screenshots were reportedly dreamed up as a concept of what the future iPhone application could look like.

Apple and Nike have already been confirmed to be bringing their Nike+Nike+ screenshot iPhone run-tracking application and hardware to the iPhone and iPhone 3G, so it’s ony a matter of time before we see the fruits of their labor. Unfortunately, we may not be as close to a working iPhone Nike+ application as we had previously thought.

Real or not, the fact that Nike+ iPhone screenshots are getting so much coverage is an indication that iPhone users really want Nike+ support. Let’s get the ball rolling, Nike! You’ve got the Nike Human Race coming up and we’re sure that thousands and thousands of iPhone and iPhone 3G users would love to use their Nike+ gear with their iPhones. It would be a shame to lose out on the potential Nike+ iPhone cash cow.

iPhone 2.0.2 OS update doing more bad than good?

Posted by Will on Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 at 5:16 pm under Rumors, Mac OS, iPhone, Apple

For those of you affected by iPhone 3G network problems, you likely took the news of Apple’s latest iPhone 2.0.2 OS update as a ray of hope breaking through the dark cloud of 3G connectivity issues. Following on iPhone 2.0.1 OS, Apple released their iPhone 2.0.2 OS with vague “bug fixes” in tow. The update was regarded by many as the end-all solution to their 3G network woes. Alas, the iPhone 2.0.2 OS seems to be causing more problems for some users, while others have yet to see their 3G network connectivity problems resolved.

Sure, there are many out there that have noticed a marked improvement in the iPhone 3G’s keyboard responsiveness and improved web-surfing reliability. But, the majority isn’t the concern here. The minority of iPhone 3G users experiencing problems is just as, if not more, important to Apple’s public relations than the majority of problem-free users. Praise for a working product can’t help mask the complaints of the enraged few that deserve to have a fully-working handset.

iPhone 2.0.2 OS

The iPhone 2.0.2 OS seems to not only have failed to fix 3G reception issues, but has caused third-party applications to crash repeatedly, sometimes failing to start up at all. And, some iPhone 3G users are experiencing problems with voice calls on the 3G network - specifically, they just can’t make alls on the 3G network.

It seems that Apple sees the bug-addled minority as a compelling reason to get another iPhone OS update out in to the ether. There are claims that Apple has responded to some email inquiries, assuring them that solutions to  iPhone 3G connectivity issues and crashing application will be released soon. But, the real question is, what is Apple doing with their iPhone 2.0 OS that is causing so many problems? The iPhone 1.0 OS was rock-solid in comparison, what is it about 2.0 that Apple just can’t seem to get right?

Perhaps the next iTunes update will help fix some problems?

Motorola Q9h in chrome/silver with Windows Mobile 6.1 hits AT&T stores

Motorola Q9h in chrome/silver

Always highly informed Boy Genius is reporting that AT&T will soon start selling the Motorola Q9h in new chrome/silver color. Apparently, the smartphone will come with Windows Mobile 6.1 pre-installed and other than the new color, it will be identical to the original device.

From what we can tell, the chrome/silver Q9h on the blurry image above looks kinda attractive. Design wise, think of it as something in between the BlackBerry Curve and Bold. You may also want to add bits of the Nokia E71 design… or not.

Anyway, we’ve no clue when will AT&T announce the MOTO Q9h in chrome/silver, nor how much will it cost. Stay tuned, ’cause we’ll let you know as soon as we find out, k?

First iPhone Nike+ run-tracker application screenshots leaked!

Posted by Will on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 6:40 pm under Rumors, Into iPhone, Mac OS, iPhone, Apple, Applications

iPhone Nike+ runMarathon season is upon us. We’re seeing more marathons, for all imaginable causes, opening up registration for later this year. And you know what that means - time to dust off your Nike+ gear!

The Nike+ sensor allows runners to track their runs, via a sensor embedded in compatible Nike running shoes, on their iPod Nanos. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting on the Nike+ application for our iPhone Nike+ application screenshotsiPhones and iPhone 3Gs.

Last we heard, Apple was working with Nike to bring the Nike+ experience to the iPhone and iPhone 3G. Today we’re seeing what is reported to be the first ever screenshots of the iPhone Nike+ application. The signal receiver that communicates with the in-shoe sensor is already compatible with the iPhone’s dock connector, but users are going to need an iPhone application to take advantage of the hardware.

The new iPhone Nike+ app is expected to allow you to update your online running log/run-tracker in real-time. There’s even a mapping feature shown in the screenshots that has us excited to go explore our neighborhood.

Now, where did I put that Nike+ run sensor?

Samsung F480 aka Tocco coming to T-Mobile?

Posted by Dusan on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 2:48 am under Rumors, T-Mobile, Samsung, Devices

Samsung F480 aka Tocco coming to T-Mobile?

T-Mobile is working to add the stylish Samsung F480 aka Tocco to its portfolio. As you can see from the image above, the device looks real with T-Mobile logo and soon enough we may see the Deutsche Telekom owned mobile operator officially going out with the device in the States.

Unfortunately at this stage we don’t have any information about the release date nor pricing. However, we do now this baby sports a 5 megapixel camera and a GPS. Some other rumors suggest it may also come with a capacitive touchscreen and a Wi-Fi support, though we’re not sure about those two. The ultra-cool TouchWiz UI should be on board as well.

Our eyes and ears are on the street. Stay tuned in the meantime…

Treo Pro caught in the wild; Plus, we have more details!

Posted by Dusan on Saturday, August 16th, 2008 at 3:48 am under Rumors, Palm, Windows Mobile, Devices

Treo Pro

Just when we posted that Palm is working on the Treo 850 / Treo Pro, we have first images of the device caught in the wild as well as more details.

Let’s do the details (specs) first. Here’s what we know:

  • 400Mhz CPU
  • 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM — i.e. enough for performing multiple demanding tasks at once
  • Tri-band 3G, quad-band GSM/GPRS
  • 320×320 pixels touchscreen
  • built-in GPS
  • 2 megapixel camera (why not more?)
  • microUSB connector
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • 1500 mAh battery (wow, that should provide tons of juice)
  • there’s a WiFi switch on the side (ultra cool!)
  • Preinstalled software includes Adobe Reader, Embertec Java, Telenav and Sprite Backup.
  • microSD slot supports cards of up to 32GB

Palm may finally have the real deal with the Treo Pro and I can’t wait to try it out. More photos of the device are available on WMExperts.

HSBC to order 200,000 iPhones for its staff?

Posted by Dusan on Saturday, August 16th, 2008 at 3:19 am under Rumors, iPhone, Apple, Devices

BlackBerry vs iPhone

iPhone is now ready for business use and some companies may consider shunning BlackBerrys and other smartphones in favor of Apple’s baby. That could help getting some media coverage while boosting retention at the same time. After all, iPhone does sound more like fun (as opposed to “work”) than any other smartphone out there.

Still, I was kinda surprised to read HSBC is thinking about getting 200,000 iPhone for its workforce. At the moment, one of Europe’s largest banks buys BlackBerrys for their staff and switching to the iPhone would be a big win for Apple.

Nothing is confirmed at this stage, but Apple sort of, kind of already won! After reading this article, I’m sure other banks and corporations will think again about Apple’s proposition. I’m sure about one thing - staff will love the idea…

Palm Treo 850 aka Treo Pro shortly shows its face

Posted by Dusan on Friday, August 15th, 2008 at 4:15 am under Rumors, Palm, Windows Mobile, Devices

Palm Treo 850 aka Treo Pro

Accidentally or not, Palm has leaked their upcoming phone - Treo 850 aka Treo Pro. User “scottymomo” broke the story on WMExperts forums and from then on, virtually all major blogs covered it.

Not much is known at this stage. However, we can see a standard 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi, touchscreen and a very cool casing. Windows Mobile will be running the show, hinting us we’ll have to wait a little longer for the next-gen Palm OS based devices.

In the meantime, WMExperts has removed the images and specs from its article, and in case they force us to do the same thing, here are the links to the same posts on Gizmodo and Engadget Mobile. They have more money to spend on lawyers than we do and I guess they’re able to fight this in case Palm’s legal department (stupidly) pushes the limits.

Sprint to launch red HTC Touch Diamond?

Sprint to launch red HTC Touch Diamond?

We’re not sure whether we should trust the image above or not, but it certainly would be nice to see the HTC Touch Diamond in some other color than black. Not that the black Diamond is ugly, quite the contrary, but seeing it shining with the red back makes the device look even more fashionable, or at least that’s the way I feel about it.

Anyway, the rumor on the street is that Sprint may be launching the red Diamond. We’re not aware of the release date nor the price. Heck, as I said previously we’re not sure whether the image is legit or just a work of a Photoshop master. We certainly hope there’s some merit to the story, though we can’t confirm much at this stage. Keeping our fingers crossed won’t do any harm, in the meantime…
