I think the price-point is about right too – £199.95 seems fair, especially if you are going to pack a whole lotta books on there. eBook Readers don’t chime well with some people, but for those of us that do like the concept, I think you could do far worse that his great little product.

invisible shield mobilefun Update: Invisible Shield covering latest devices also

Mobilefun.co.uk kindly emailed me to let me know that their Invisible Shield range now includes the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N97 and 5800 XpressMusic, the iPhone 3G (and therefore I’d assume 3GS), and also the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Bold.

As a brief product reminder:

Guaranteed Scratch Protection For All Devices - From Only £9.72

No matter how careful you are, without protection, your screen will get scratched. The best way to do this is to protect your device with the InvisibleSHIELD.

The InvisibleSHIELD is the toughest, most durable scratch protection film available on the planet. The film has its origins in the U.S. military protecting the leading edges of helicopter blades from wear and tear.

Features include:

  • Invisible protection.
  • Custom design for your device.
  • Covers the whole device.
  • Scratch proof.
  • Includes special application adhesive and full instructions.
  • Easily removable without leaving marks on your device.

So there you have it – this is tough stuff, and assuming you fit it correctly, then you should have one very protected device. A less-than-£10 pricepoint is also welcome!

If you want to know more or buy the Invisible Shield, go see Mobilefun.co.uk here.

Stop the Insanity! iPhone SIM-free way too dear!

iphone 3gs Stop the Insanity! iPhone SIM free way too dear!

Okay, now I’m a big fan of the iPhone, but this is ridiculous – the iPhone 3GS is the best part of a grand (£1000 to non-UK’ers) online? Yes, it’s true! No, I didn’t believe it at first either!

Now before I go any further, I’ll just say that Play.com, the site where I found this deal, have a very good reputation in the UK – they’ve been doing excellent-priced media (muzik, DVDs, etc) for a long time – and they know how to offer stuff at a good price.

The iPhone 3GS 32GB is listed there at an eye-watering £899.99…

So what gives? Well, as I said above Play do good deals, so I can only think this pricing has largely been determined from Apple (NSDQ: AAPL), up on the mothership – and my 10 cents/pence worth are that this is unabridged insanity – after all, you could pick up a MacBook Laptop for that price !!!

I’d more than welcome reader comments – if you want to check out the prices of the iPhones for yourself, head over to Play.com, in the Mobiles section…

UK: Carphone Warehouse profits leap up!

By Ben Robinson on Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 at 2:03 PM PST
In UK News, UK Retail

logo cpw UK: Carphone Warehouse profits leap up!Cellular News is reporting that Carphone Warehouse has had a big jump in full-year profit from £73 million last year to £550 million this year – this being due to a big gain from the sale of its retail business.

The company is now in two parts, with the fixed-line telephony and ISP (TalkTalk) being one bit, and the retail arm (called Best Buy Europe) being the other.

Well it’s both impressive, and I suppose also not indicative of regular profits – the fact that CW had that much value in it’s retail arm does give some indication as to the good business they’ve been doing. Certainly I have found them to be one of the better shops in the high street.
