Tablets and e-readers may soon be legal to use on flights during takeoff and landing

The Federal Aviation Administration may finally allow users to use their tablets and e-readers during takeoff and landing. Mobile phones are not included in this proposal as they may interfere with the RF equipment in cockpit.

Using electronics during ascent and descent of commercial flights has been banned back in 60s, and has been challenged many times since then. As more and more people have tablets and e-readers, the cry for leniency has grown louder each year. In fact, almost one-third of flyers have forgotten to turn off their phones during prohibited times and no plane malfunctions have ever been blamed specifically on errant gadget usage.

Then again, FAA’s ban may be less about the potential for interference with the cockpit equipment and more about retaining a uniform peacefulness in the cabin, especially during times when flyers may be nervous.

So are you looking forward to use your gadgets during the entire flight? 😉
