It’s hard enough fighting, on the Windows Mobile front, against attacks from Symbian OS’s ever-increasing market share. Now, Windows Mobile has another front to protect – against the looming threat from the soon-to-be-released Apple iPhone. MacWorld UK’s Jonny Evans reports that, “Apple may grab as much as 6 percent of the US mobile phone market in the next year – giving it a slightly stronger footprint in the market than rival Microsoft, a report claims.” This projection is based on a Markitecture survey of 1,300 mobile phone users in the US.
Compare Apple iPhone’s expected 6 percent market share with the current 5.6 percent that belongs to Windows Mobile, and it becomes clear that WinMo is in for a tough fight – from Symbian OS and Apple. That is, if you discount Ballmer’s claim that the iPhone will flop.
