Update: Well, apparently the mystery of the missing application has been solved. The recent news of the YouTube application for the Apple iPhone shed some light on what application/icon was causing all the other homescreen icons to get pushed over. The pic to the right illustrates what we’re talking about – the YouTube application.
Macenstein‘s got a pretty good eye. They’ve spotted a slight discrepancy in the Apple iPhone “How-To“advertisement (which you can find on the Apple website), that hints at a mystery application waiting to launch with the iPhone on luanch day – June 29th! If you look closely at every iPhone video released, to-date, that the icon layout on the homescreen displays 11 icons (the top two rows have 4 icons across, while the bottom row has only 3 icons). This odd number of icons results in an extra, “missing,” icon space at the bottom right corner of the homescreen.
However, the recent advertisement shows a close-up on the bottom section of the homescreen with that “missing” space being filled by the “Settings” icon. This might mean that some mysterious application has been added to the homescreen, causing it to push all the icons one space to the right. It could also mean a bunch of other things – like Apple wanting an aesthetically pleasing layout for the close-up.
We’ll just have to wait and see (is there an echo in here?).
