We sure hope not. Nokia’s known for pushing out myriad handset offerings ranging from the super-cheap, low-end to the ridiculously high-end, and belittling a certain competitor’s sales figures. But they’re not known for their intriguing codenames. Case in point, we’re hearing the Nokia is internally referring to their S60 Touch OS-based iPhone-fighting handset as the “iPerformer.”
Right, regardless of the lame codename, there’s also talk of the iPerformer hitting market with a widescreen touchscreen (of course), QWERTY keypad, GPS, NaviScroll, FM radio/ transmitter, WiFi, Bluetooth, TV out, and a Web cam. It’s not clear what the “web cam” dealio is all about. Nokia usually knows what they’re doing in the camera department so we’ll just go along for now.
Launch window and pricing are still unknown, but we’ll take whatever details on Nokia’s iPhone-fighting iPerformer we can get at this point.
Sidenote: It’s unclear if the Nokia iPerformer is the internal codename for the Nokia 5800 Tube, or the iPhone-killing touchscreen handset that’s due to launch shortly after the Nokia Tube.
