Now, before you get yourself all riled up over the prospect of nabbing a super-cheap iPhone in the next week or so, just know that this latest rumor comes from Kevin Rose.
The Digg-founder has thrown around Apple iPhone-related rumors like it’s his night-job, and he’s known for seriously dropping the ball with last year’s iPhone rumors – he said the iPhone would launch with a slide-out keyboard, touchscreen, and two batteries. He’s batting 0.300, which is good in baseball, but not so much in rumor-land. But, as we get closer to the 3G iPhone’s launch next week, any and all not-insignificant iPhone rumors will be piquing our interest – if for nothing more than to see how well they pan out.
Kevin Rose says that he’s heard rumors that Apple will be complementing the launch of the 3G iPhone with a lower-end iPhone offering at a rather bargain-priced $200 price-point. Whether he’s referring to a new, lower-end iPhone or just a new pricing schedule for the current generation iPhone is unclear.
Apple could choose to continue selling the current iPhone alongside the next-generation iPhone. That would finally give Apple more than a single hardware offering in their mobile phone lineup, and it also jives well with the cheap iPhone rumor.
Will you choose the newer 3G iPhone or the cheaper iPhone?
The wait continues…
