What’s this now? Apple is going to launch the AppStore ahead of the iPhone v2.0 firmware that will be required to actually work with the application?
Now, we can’t wait to sink our teeth in to the hundreds of iPhone applications that the AppStore undoubtedly has in store for us, but the “early July” launch window for the iPhone 2.0 OS firmware doesn’t jibe well with the mention of a June 27 launch for the Apple AppStore.
Apple’s Australian website makes mention of the purported June 27 launch date, but there is no other mention of that particular date anywhere else.
Could Apple have goofed, using an older launch-date projection that has since been delayed to July 11? We can’t say for sure, but it sure is strange to see the AppStore being prepared for a launch ahead of the new iPhone 2.0 OS. We’ll have to wait and see if Apple fixes the goof (if it is, indeed, a goof), or if Apple is planning to surprise us with an earlier launch date for the iPhone v2.0 firmware or the iPhone 3G.
