It looks like Nokia’s got another take on the Nokia Tube. No, it’s not a variant to the Nokia 5800 XpressMedia Tube, we’re talking about this here patent application from Espoo. Proving that there’s no end to patentable ideas, Nokia has applied for a patent on a tube-shaped mobile phone.
The cylindrical handset sports a “ribbon” that can slide up and down the device’s lengthwise axis. There are apparently two different UIs in this device, differentially activated by the “ribbon’s” position – slide it down and the handset works like a traditional cellphone, slide it the other way and you get a camera.
Nifty? Sure. Marketable? Probably not.
